Cognitive Computing: wat gaat u ermee doen?

This text is only in Dutch.

IBM and ICE use Chef Watson in the KitchenMisschien leest u erover in de krant: robots gaan ons werk en leven overnemen.

Data Breaches - So, what else is new?

Deze tekst is alleen in het Engels.

Poster - Espionage (1937) 08.jpgDo you remember the data hacks at Sony, Ashley Madison, eBay? All data leaks, data breaches or data theft, however you want to call it. Wikipedia defines data breaches as follows: “A data breach is the intentional or unintentional release of secure information to an un-trusted environment.”

Mijn website is nu responsive | My website is now responsive

My website “The Design of Small Model Railways” is completely re-newed and has been made responsive. The pages are now readable on all devices, such as tables and smartphones. And the design has been modernised too. It took some effort, but the result is quite satifying.

Knowing Cognitive Computing (part 2 of 2)

Deze tekst is alleen in het Engels.

Curating content

IBM Debuts Analytics for EveryoneIn part 1 of this post, I described how cognitive computing can be used to gain a competitive edge. By using the information and knowledge hidden in data sources, cognitive systems can extract knowledge. For instance, you can use cognitive computing to improve your customer engagement by leveraging your previous experiences with your customers. You can even automate your customer interaction by using automated self-service Question-and-Answer applications.

Knowing Cognitive Computing (part 1 of 2)

Deze tekst is alleen in het Engels.

Making decisions

IBM Debuts Analytics for EveryoneCognitive computing is the tech industry’s latest ‘it’ thing. Not just within the Big Data world, but also outside that realm. The virtues and drawbacks of cognitive computing are being discussed in mainstream television, newspapers, magazines and blogs, with questions like: What will it bring, what will be the effect on our jobs, and how we make decisions.

“Starters Kid” revisited

“Starters Kid”

My homepage “Small Layout Design” has a new track plan. Edwin and Jonas asked me to re-draw this track plan using Fleischmann Profi system. I didn’t want to use flex track to see it this track system is also suitable for this kind of track plans. And after some fiddling I managed to create the same figure on the same area.

Meten is weten? | Do numbers tell the tale?

| Are your ECM systems mission critical?

Automatische metadata: waarom eigenlijk?

This text is only in Dutch.

Is Big Data about data or processes?

Deze tekst is alleen in het Engels.

Process and data modelingI recently read an article by my colleague Steve Jones about collaboration. Data collaboration means that disparate data sets are going to need to collaborate to produce a new outcome. But from my background in Enterprise Content Management (ECM), collaboration means people working on the same set of data (or documents) to achieve a common goal. Like in a project.

The fact that data can collaborate, just like people, surprised me. This triggered me to think about how we should approach Big Data? Is it all about data or users?

5 Things Big Data can learn from ECM (part 1 of 4)

Deze tekst is alleen in het Engels.

DATABASE at PostmastersOne of the essential principles of Big Data is storing data in raw format: No transformation during ingest. The data is interpreted and transformed when read and analyzed. Though this principle has its virtues, there are some drawbacks. With years of experience in Enterprise Content Management (ECM), dealing with all kinds of data, I would like to discuss five topics where this principle of Big Data needs some adjustments.

Information Governance: Rules or risks or more?

Deze tekst is alleen in het Engels.

“Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.” (Douglas Bader)

File:Cornelis Brizé - Treasurers' papers and documents - Google Art Project.jpgInformation governance refers to the overall management of the availability, usability, integrity, and security of the information and data employed in an enterprise. This is a pretty accurate description, but what's in there for me and my organization? Is it compliance, rules and regulations? Or is it about risks for my organization and how to mitigate them? Or is there more to gain for information governance?
